The result of sin is SEPARATION between you and God. In the Old Testament, Isaiah 59:2 says "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear."
In the New Testament, the magnitude is even more. It says that the ultimate result of sin is DEATH. Romans 6:23a says "For the wages of sin is death." A wage is something that you deserve or earn, the opposite of a gift. God says we have earned death for our sins. Ouch!
The Bible speaks of death in three aspects. The first is the one we think of the most which is a PHYSICAL death. Hebrews 9:27 says "Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment."
The second aspect is SPIRITUAL death. This is being alive physically but not having a relationship with God. Ephesians 2:1 says "As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins." Even though we are physically alive, God can't be actively involved in our lives because of our association with things that are so repulsive to Him. That separation accounts for all the emptiness we experience from day to day. We try to fill the void of His absence with numerous things, but God is the only one that can fill that void.
The third aspect of death is ETERNAL death, or hell. 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 says "He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9They will be punished with everlasting destruction and shut out from the presence of the Lord and from the majesty of his power." This means that all those who have broken God's laws will spend eternity in hell - separated from God - to pay the penalty for their sin. God can not allow sin into Heaven.
As a result of the sins you made in the last two weeks alone, you are living separated from God, and will some day have to spend eternity in hell to pay for your sin.
The obvious question is, "Is there any way to bridge the gap?"
