Day 12
Driving again... We left North Dakota this morning and drove to Rapid City, South Dakota. North Dakota was very flat and boring. Not much to see.
This is what happens when I'm bored I guess. I didn't even realize I was in this picture, but it cracks me up.
My man!Once, you get to South Dakota, there are all these tourist spots. "Stop Here". Well, after driving in the middle of nowhere, the first one we see is for The Corn Palace. I told Luke I wanted to stop and he immediately says "NO. We are not stopping at that stupid place." After begging for hours, because the signs started hours before you actually get to the place. He gave in. The sign says "Only 3 minutes off the freeway", 3 meaning 13. So, we finally get there and Luke keeps telling me how stupid it's going to be. We get out and take some pictures outside.
Me at the one and only Corn Palace. Luke takes my picture and says "K, let's go". I was thinking "Are you kidding me? We're here. We have to go in". So, I drag him in. And it really was as lame as he expected it to be. All it was was this palace looking thing that they decorated in corn every year. Inside they sold all things corn. I bought some corn on the cob handle pokers things, and popcorn that pops on the cob. Can we say CORNY! This was a waste of time, but it was pretty funny. And got us out of the car for a minute.
Missouri RiverOur next stop after reading a million more signs, was Wall Drug. These signs say it was noted in all kinds of magazines and the Today Show. So, it had to be better. It was. They had a bunch of shops and food places. They had some cool stuff here.
This is their new "backyard". It was cool. I'm standing by the little splash pad. And they had all these things to take your picture with. You can see Mt. Rushmore and a horse behind me.
Luke with Wild Bill.We stopped for the night in Rapid City, South Dakota. There was a store right by our hotel that had all kinds of funny cheap stuff. Mostly Sturgis shirts and souvenirs. We got a good laugh and bought a bunch of stuff.
Day 13
We're off again. Today is my birthday. Happy 26th! We got to stop at Mt. Rushmore, which was definitely one of the coolest places I've ever been. I loved it. The Black Hills are so cool. I would love to camp here, or stay in one of the little cabins for a week. The little towns are so cute and I would love to walk around the shops and see some more things, like the Reptile Land and The Wild Animal Park.

Our first sighting of Mt. Rushmore. It's so strange to pull through such a green forest and there is this rock with Presidents heads out of nowhere.
Luke walking along the path. You can walk around and get somewhat closer and different angles for pictures. It was so pretty.

This is the old visiting center. You can see a little bench and the view area up above. It is much nicer and bigger now.
Leaving. This would be the first view if we came from the other direction. Pretty cool.Well, after a long couple days of driving, we made it home. Happy to be in familiar territory, but sad that the vacation is over.
